In 1997,
Alpha
Zee diversified into the solar segment and started the Solar
Division. It made a small foray into the market to cater to the
power requirements of the rural segment, particularly lighting
for streets and homes.
To increase the
product line of the Solar Division, Alpha Zee has tied up with
world leader Merloni Termo Sanitari (India) Ltd., an ISO
9001:2000 company, as an Authorised Channel Partner to market
and maintain their Solar Water Heater under the flagship brand,
Racold. Merloni Termo Sanitari (India) Ltd. is a wholly owned
subsidiary of Merloni Termo Sanitari Spa, Italy, having an
annual sales turnover of 1.78 billion euros.
Merloni Termo Sanitari Spa (MTS), Italy, is the world
leader in the manufacturing and marketing of water and space
heating products and their components. With 19 brands and 20
manufacturing units worldwide, it has a presence in over 150
countries.
The Indian operations include India’s largest and fully
integrated water heater plant in Chakan near Pune that has been
operational since 1999. Products manufactured at this plant meet
stringent international standards and offer consumers the latest
in technology and performance that is suited to Indian
conditions.
MTS
bagged the contract for the prestigious 3,50,000-liter solar
water heater installation for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The
heater will be designed to cater to the needs of 17,500
athletes.
